Singapore is the 1st city to host the Youth Olympics in 2010....it is indeed a landmark for Singapore...being a small country with limited resources and yet the International Olympic Committee has so much of faith in us as shown by their votes.
Here's food for thought yet again...how do you think we would benefit by hosting the Youth Olympics in 2010?

Ah Meng will not be forgotten...but we need to move on
A lot of you mentioned that Ah Meng should be the Singapore icon but you guys fail to realise that today Ah Meng is no longer with us. Though we mourn for his loss and will remember him forever, we need to move on to find another icon.
A number of you also mentioned that the Merlion should be our icon....yes, the Merlion is widely recognised as our symbol but it is an artificial construct...so do you really think that it should be a symbol representing Singapore.
For those of you who haven't posted yet, I urge to give me your thoughts on this matter.
And my dear 6/1 students, please don't limit yourselves to just only a one liner...instead elaborate on your replies. I encourage you guys to think deeper into issues!

Singapore Icon
Our Singapore Port is internationally recognised as one of the busiest port in the world. Its development from a mere maritime trading post in 1819 to handling a quarter of the world's shipping containers is just incredible.
Coming to the question for this week....
What do you think is Singapore Icon? In other words, what do you think is representative of Singapore? It could be a symbol or a person. Even our Singapore Port could be one of them. Give me your thoughts on this question!!!

What's up this week?
Tomorrow is 15 Feb 2008...the day we commemorate Total Defence Day! We had the SAF personnel on Tuesday to give you a talk on Military Defence accompanied by an exhibition of the weapons, equipment and some of you even had a taste of army food....suppose you guys were surprised by its delicious taste or was it not??
Anyway how many of you know why we commemorate Total Defence Day? Why must we know the five components of Total Defence? In fact, can you recall the five components?
Also comment on how did you find the Total Defence Day Program? Would you like anything else to be added to give the students a deeper impression to why we must commemorate Total Defence Day?
